Mild to Moderate Anxiety and/or Depression
Symptoms/presenting problems include:
Negative mood (sad, irritable, angry)
Decreased/diminished interest or pleasure in activities
Fatigue/ loss of energy
Changes in weight or appetite, sleep disturbance
Sense of worthlessness, guilt, or hopelessness
Excessive anxiety or worry, and challenges controlling the worry
Inability to focus/concentrate, mind going blank
Interventions include:
Increasing internal coping skills and mindfulness, exploring core beliefs, restructuring and reframing cognitive distortions/assumptions, challenging language, and increasing adaptive belief systems
Identity Incongruencies
Symptoms/presenting problems include:
Low self-esteem, self-worth
Feelings of “stuckness”, or just going with the flow
People-pleasing behaviors incongruent to values
Poor boundaries, challenges in goal-setting, career complacency
Inability to find pleasure in activities or withdrawing from hobbies or social situations
Interventions include:
Increasing general intrapersonal skills, strengthening value systems, exploring what’s working and what’s not working, identifying solution-focused goals, uncovering core beliefs/expectations within a cultural context, and defining healthy attachments
Trauma / Intergenerational Trauma
Symptoms/presenting problems include:
Negative mood, inability to experience positive emotions
Dissociation, avoidance, flashbacks
Fatigue/ loss of energy
Sleep disturbance, hypervigilance, irritable, aggressive
Sense of shame, self-blame, negative core beliefs
Stressor or no stressor
Inability to focus/concentrate, mind going blank
Interventions include:
Increasing internal coping skills, mindfulness and distress tolerance, identifying strengths and resources, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and facilitating cognitive restructuring
Life Stage Challenges
Symptoms/presenting problems include:
Low self-esteem, self-worth, guilt, regret
Challenges adjusting to new responsibilities/ roles
Inability to find pleasure in activities or withdrawing from hobbies or social situations
Feelings of stagnation or regression
Fear of aging, progressing
Interventions include:
Increasing general intrapersonal skills, strengthening healthy relationships/attachments, learning about different stages of development and their context, identifying solution-focused goals, uncovering core beliefs/expectations within a cultural context
